Spotted dove:

This bird is from Asia. It came to Los Angeles in California in 1917. After that, it went to other places in California. It can live in many areas, like Santa Barbara, Bakersfield, and San Diego. These birds like to be in neighborhoods and are not scared of people. They often eat on the ground in yards and gardens. When something scares them, they quickly fly straight up from the ground, making a lot of noise with their wings.

This bird is long and thin, with a pinkish-buff color underneath that turns grey on its head and belly. It has a half collar on its neck made of black feathers that split into two and have white spots at the tips. The feathers on its back and sides have a brown color with rufous spots, and the wing feathers are dark brown with grey edges. The center of its belly and vent are white. When it flies, you can see white tips on the outer tail feathers. Both male and female birds look similar, but young ones are not as colorful as adults and don’t have neck spots until they grow up.

Eating:

Spotted Doves eat grains, seeds, and leftovers. They usually eat by themselves or in small groups on the ground. Sometimes, they pick up seeds from trees and bushes.

Social Behavior:

These birds are nice and calm. Spotted Doves usually hang out in pairs or small groups. They talk to each other with soft cooing sounds. The sounds they make are relaxing and go in a nice rhythm, making everything peaceful around them. These doves don’t act mean or fight a lot, so people see them as a symbol of calmness among birds.

What They Look Like?

Spotted Doves are usually around 30 centimeters long, and their wings spread out to about 45 centimeters. They have a slim body and a long, narrow tail. Their soft feathers give them a beautiful look, like a painting, and they easily fit into different places. Spotted Doves have small, dark eyes that make them look cute.

How Long It Can Live:

A pet Spotted Dove can live for a good amount of time, like 5 to 10 years or maybe even more if you take good care of it. What your dove eats, where it lives, and how healthy it is can affect how long it lives. If you give your pet dove the right care, it can have a happy and full life.

Laughing dove:

People really like laughing doves as pets. They are easy to take care of. You just have to watch that they eat a mix of foods, including fruits, but not too much. These birds like having lots of space, so it’s best to keep them in big cages. You can also let them roam freely, but make sure they have a safe place with special wooden boxes for food and water.

Crested pigeon:

The Crested pigeon is a type of bird from Australia. There are only two pigeon types in Australia that have a standing crest, and the Crested pigeon is one of them. Some people also call it the Topknot pigeon, which is a name shared with another pigeon from Eastern Australia called the reddish crested Lopholaimus antarcticus. Besides being called crested or Topknot pigeon, people also refer to them as ‘bronzewing’ or ‘dove’ because of their special crest.

Crested Pigeons are common in Australia and can be found in most places except where there’s a lot of rain. They like living in open woodlands with shrubs and trees, and they need to be close to water. Even though they spend most of their time on the ground, they make their nests and find shelter in trees.

What They Look Like?

Crested Pigeons are smaller and skinnier than regular pigeons, about 12 to 14 inches tall. They have a long black crest on the top of their heads that makes them look special. These pigeons are not the usual gray; they have pinkish and olive colors on their neck and chest. Their wings are gray with some purplish or blue-green lines, and they have brown patches

on their belly. The tail feathers on the outside are darker gray with a mix of bluish, purplish, and green colors, and they end with a wide white tip. The area around their eyes and their feet are pinkish. Their eyes can be orange, yellow, or red, with a red ring around them.

Diet:

Crested Pigeons usually eat small bugs, green plants, tiny bulbs, and seeds. They mostly get these seeds from plants like Acacia trees. Lately, they have also been seen munching on different kinds of seeds from new plants and weeds.

How Long Crested Pigeons Live:

Crested Pigeons usually live for about 3 to 5 years. Some can live a bit longer if they stay safe from dangers like other animals and find enough food. The first few years of a Crested Pigeon’s life are important, and if they get through them okay, they have a better chance of living longer.

Stock dove:

The bird called stock dove got its name from old words that mean tree trunks. But, it doesn’t mean people kept it for food. “Stock dove” really just means “a dove that lives in hollow trees”. Sometimes, people use those trees for fires, and that’s why it’s called “stock dove”.

Stock Doves eat simple food. A good diet for them has seeds, grains, and fresh fruits and veggies. Always give them fresh water and be careful not to give them too much food.

Stock doves really like being with others. When you spend time with your pet, talk to them, and handle them gently, it helps them trust you more. This makes your bond with your bird stronger. Stock doves also like having other bird friends, so having two of them can be a good plan.
